About the 5 Year Plan Process
Through this planning process, the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy seeks to develop a list of prioritized projects for the next five years. This is an effort that follows the Plan for the 21st Century, our master plan for the Buffalo Olmsted Park System that was created in 2008. We will be releasing the 5 Year Plan at the State of the Parks on June 18, 2019 (Details below). For any inquiries, please reach out to the Conservancy at email@example.com.
Do you represent a community? Join the Olmsted Community Alliance!
Are you a leader or representative of a local community in the City of Buffalo? Do you agree that parks are instrumental to the well-being of your community? We would like to have YOU as part of the Olmsted Community Alliance. Please email your name and a short description of the community that you represent to firstname.lastname@example.org. The first Olmsted Community Alliance meeting is scheduled for August 22, 2019, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Community Beer Works.
Three Rounds of Community Meetings across Five Olmsted Neighborhoods
Community engagement is key to this planning process. To ensure that we reach all park neighbors, supporters and visitors throughout the entire Olmsted Park System, the Conservancy is holding a series of community meetings in each of the five park districts: Delaware District, MLK Jr. Park, South District, Riverside Park and West District.
Community Meeting Round 1: July – September 2018
The first round of community meetings addressed (1) park improvements that have been made over the last 10 years and (2) park improvement priorities and projects to focus on over the next 5 years.
Community Meeting Round 2: October – November 2018
The second round of community meetings (1) reviewed community input from the first meeting and (2) identified priority projects the 5 Year Pan.
Community Meeting Round 3: February 2018
The third (and final) round of community meetings will (1) review results from the 5 Year Plan Survey and (2) finalize priority projects for the Olmsted Park System over the next five years. Please refer below for meeting dates.
5 Year Plan Survey
In addition to the community meetings, the Conservancy also conducted a public survey across 8 weeks (Dec 2018 – Jan 2019). As of the first week of February, a total of 1,152 survey responses were collected.
5 Year Plan Reveal
At the 2019 State of the Parks on June 18th at the Burchfield Penney Art Center, we revealed the projects that are included in the Five Year Plan. This report covers park priorities and projects in the Buffalo Olmsted Park System for the next five years — 2020 to 2024.
The 5 Year Plan Report is scheduled to be officially released in print and digital at the end of August.
