Opening hours: Every day from 7am to 7pm during the park season
The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy (BOPC) is excited to announce the official opening of the Point of the Meadow Shelter in Delaware Park (meadow side). Located along Delaware Park Ring Road (off the Nottingham Terrace exit of Route 198), the newly renovated shelter features new windows and doors, toilets, sinks, partitions in both men’s and women’s restrooms, new exterior concrete at each restroom entrance, repaired exterior masonry bricks, an upgraded electrical system and stronger basement support beams. From start to finish, the total project cost came to $894,500.
Restoration of this park building was identified as a priority capital project in BOPC’s current Five Year Plan. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and increased costs over the years, additional fundraising became necessary, and this project was inevitably delayed ever since it closed for the park season in the fourth quarter of 2019.
With generous funding from the Buffalo and Erie County Greenway Fund Standing Committee and the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation, construction began in the fall of 2024 and was completed in the summer of 2025. The Point of the Meadow Shelter is scheduled to open every day in the park season, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“We are eager for all Delaware Park users to enjoy this newly renovated building! As caretakers of your Olmsted landscapes, we are committed to enhancing your park experience and creating a safe and joyful environment for you and your loved ones. Restoring and re-activating a building such as the Point of the Meadow Shelter is long-time coming, and I want to thank our funders for aligning with our mission and to my hardworking team who work behind-the-scenes tirelessly every day, all year round,” said Catie Stephenson, Executive Director
“The Buffalo and Erie County Greenway Fund Standing Committee is excited to see the Point of the Meadow Shelter now open for public access. We hope that by investing in park projects such as these, residents and visitors who visit Delaware Park will be able to benefit from the upgrades and improvements. Enhancing parkland to provide more resources for people to connect with nature, especially within the Niagara River Greenway, is crucial to our mission and plan,” said Daniel Castle, Chair of the Buffalo and Erie County Greenway Fund Standing Committee and Commissioner of the Erie County Department of Environment & Planning.
“I am thrilled to see the Point of the Meadow Shelter back open to the public with the new renovations. The Olmsted Park Conservancy has been a remarkable partner to the Delaware District and I commend these updates as they will continue to enhance Delaware Park’s accessibility to our community,” said Joel P. Feroleto, Delaware District Council Member
“We’re proud to support the continued development of parks and trails across Western New York to create active, vibrant green spaces that connect people and places,” said JJ Tighe, Senior Director of Parks & Trails at the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation. “Our partnership with the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy in their efforts to revitalize the historic Olmsted parks across Buffalo is part of our long-term commitment to improving all parks within the City of Buffalo for residents now and for generations to come.”
