The $850,000 project was a collaborative effort between the City of Buffalo and Erie County, with the City contributing $400,000 in American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds—underscoring a shared commitment to equity, accessibility, and inclusive public spaces throughout the park system.

“This new inclusive playground is more than just a place to play—it’s a symbol of what we can achieve when we work together to make our city more welcoming for everyone,” said Buffalo Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon. “I’m proud that the City of Buffalo and Erie County came together to create a space where all children and families, regardless of ability, can laugh, explore, and grow. Investments like these strengthen our neighborhoods and reflect the values that make Buffalo a city for all.” The playground is one of the most highly trafficked recreational spaces in the Olmsted Park System and now features modern equipment designed to accommodate children of all abilities.

“Erie County is proud to partner with the City of Buffalo and Olmstead Parks Conservancy to open a third Inclusive Playground in Buffalo,” said Deputy Erie County Executive Lisa Chimera. “Accessibility and inclusion are key priorities for Erie County, and by creating spaces for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy, we enrich our communities and improve quality of life for all.”

Erie County Legislator John Gilmour said, “This playground isn’t just another project—it’s personal. It represents years of hard work and a strong partnership between the city, county, and state. Together, we’ve created a space where every child can play, every family can connect, and everyone feels welcome. Cazenovia Park has always been a special place for our community—this inclusive playground ensures it will continue to bring people together for generations to come. I was fortunate to secure $450,000 in funding for this project, helping to strengthen our commitment to the future of this park. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished and thankful to my partners in government for making it possible.”

Catie Stephenson, Executive Director, Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy said, “The conservancy is so proud to partner with the City of Buffalo and Erie County to make this new playground possible. Thank you Mayor Scanlon, County Exec Poloncarz, Deputy CE Chimera, and Legislator Gilmour. Partnership makes these projects possible. We hope everyone enjoys this space!”
