Keep the Beer FLO-ing with Community Beer Works

To round up 150 Hours of Olmsted, join us at Keep the Beer FLO-ing! Our goal is to recruit 150 new members to celebrate 150 years of Olmsted Parks in Buffalo. Help us make that happen!

Date: Wednesday, August 29, 2018 (rescheduled from August 22)
Place: Community Beer Works, 520 7th Street, Buffalo 14201
Time: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

In honor of FREDerick Law Olmsted and our 150th Celebration, Community Beer Works will switch up the name of their Frank Beer to FRED for the evening! Bring a friend with you and join/renew your Olmsted Parks membership! If you are already a member, THANK YOU, and this would be the perfect chance to mingle with fellow Olmsted Parks supporters. First beer on the house, additional beers $3 each. The Significance of 150 Hours of Olmsted

Lets take it back to 150 years ago!

In August 1868, Frederick Law Olmsted came to Buffalo to embark on his journey to conceptualize, design and build the first urban park system in North America. Celebrate Olmsted’s legacy at the events below!

Wednesday, August 15: Aerial Photo with Volunteers and Staff

In collaboration with HSBC USA and the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County’s Day of Caring, 250 park volunteers and BOPC staff will gather at Riverside Park in to form a “150” layout.

Thursday, August 16: Official Press Conference to Announce 150 Hours of Olmsted

150 years ago on August 16, Buffalo’s William Dorsheimer invited Frederick Law Olmsted to Buffalo to inspect and design a park.

150 years later today, we celebrate and commemorate Olmsted’s vision and legacy.

On August 17 at dusk, experience BuffaloLIT at various historic landmarks throughout the Queen City!

BuffaloLIT is made possible in collaboration with the City of Buffalo and partners, our city’s historic landmarks including City Hall, Peace bridge, Seneca One, Electric Tower, Grain Elevators and more will light up in Olmsted Orange. Saturday, August 18: Picnic & Play in the Parks

Gather a few friends, pack your picnic baskets and head over to your favorite Olmsted Parks! Here are three things you need to know:

  1. Both Delaware Park and South Park golf courses will be CLOSED. Everyone is encouraged to take over the meadows for picnics, a game of frisbee and a nap under the Sun!

Bark in the Park presented by Univera

Sunday, August 19: Bark in the Park, 11 – 2 p.m.

Love your furry friends as much as we do? Bark in the Park presented by Univera will bring pet lovers together to enjoy an afternoon with your four-legged friend(s) at Hoyt Lake! Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Bring your pets with you, but if you have no pets, we would still love to have you!
  2. Always use a leash for your pets and pick up after them.
  3. This event is free for all to attend, and welcome bags will be available at Olmsted’s Houndquarters on a first-come-first-serve basis!
  4. Activities include: Hoyt Lake Dog Parade, Training Classes with Dog Days of Buffalo, a Grooming Station, demonstrations from the K-9 unit, a Pet Expo with local vendors and the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter.
  5. Have your photo taken at the official Bark in the Park Photobooth! YES, there will be props available.
