Generous community response gives the parks a lift
Buffalo, New York – Imagine if someone took a spray can to one of Van Gogh’s masterpieces. That’s essentially what happened in Delaware Park earlier this week when vandals attempted to ruin one of the most cherished treasures in the region. About 100 teenagers and young adults created thousands of dollars in damages, leaving the park in disrepair just before its busiest season. Read More

THE BUFFALO OLMSTED PARKS CONSERVANCY ANNOUNCES ARTIST SELECTED FOR MCKINLEY HIGH SCHOOL MURAL
The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy is proud to announce Augustina Droze of Los Angeles, California, has been selected as lead artist for the installation of a mural project at McKinley High School as part of the Scajaquada Creekside Trail Improvement Project funded through the New York Power Authority, Niagara River Greenway Commission. The artist has been chosen by a panel of judges who reviewed presentations made by artists from across the country.

• A resolution was passed by the Board of Trustees on June 24, 2010, clarifying the following 4 point statement:
o The BOPC continues to support efforts to restore the historic Front Park and its majestic view of the waterfront.
o The BOPC has not supported and does not support the diversion of neighborhood improvement funds in order to restore Front Park or its view.
o BOPC stands firm in its commitment to our mission to protect and preserve the Olmsted Vision that includes the neighborhoods surrounding our historic park system. We will advocate for the best possible project in this and all other cases.
o The position of the BOPC concerning the Peace Bridge expansion and related mitigation measures is well documented in the public record and has not been withdrawn. The BOPC’s record on the issue can be found at http://www.peacebridgex.com

It’s Tree Planting Time in the Olmsted Parks
Volunteers are needed to plant 600 trees this spring throughout Buffalo’s historic Olmsted Park System. As part of the Olmsted Parks Conservancy’s master plan, The Plan for the 21st Century, the Conservancy and volunteers will plant understory, flowering and canopy trees in April and May. Over the next decade, 10,000 new trees will be planted in Olmsted green spaces.
